We chose to stay in Thanya Beach Resort not only because we liked Koh Ngai island, but also because most reviews claimed that this was the best hotel to stay in Trang archipelago. It offers a quiet haven for holidaymakers.
How to get to Thanya Beach Resort
The hotel is located on the southeast end of Koh Ngai. The property faces the most beautiful part of the 2-km long stretch of white sand. Most tourists come to the island with a longtail boat from Pakmeng pier on the mainland or a speedboat from Koh Lanta.
We booked with the hotel a transfer from Krabi airport to the resort. The price was reasonable – 4000 Baht for three persons. We were told that they could arrange transfer from the airport to the island no later than 3 pm.
On our check-in day, the driver of a van waited for us at the airport. After less than 2-hour drive, we got off the car and took a boat from Pakmeng pier for 45 minutes. The trip was perfectly organized by hotel’s manager.
Thanya Beach Resort Prices
We booked a Tropical sea view bungalow directly with the hotel. We emailed our request and received a prompt reply with a quotation. They offered a price of 4500 Baht (126 Eur) included breakfast instead of the standard rate of 4750 Baht –132 (Eur). Hotel staff charged us 800 Baht (23 Eur) per night for an extra bed. We paid the total amount by credit card. They accepted Visa or Master card. We were informed that full balance payment must be transfer to their account in 14 days after receiving invoice.
Of course we could find other resorts with better rates but staying in Thanya Beach Resort worth the money. It was truly the best hotel to stay in Trang.
Accommodation
Our beachfront bungalow was facing the amazing Andaman Sea and the tropical garden. The large terrace was the perfect place to relax. Although we had paid a room for three persons, we were provided with only two outdoor chairs. According to local traditions, we had to take off our shoes to enter the bungalow.
The accommodation features a king size bed, an extra bed, a desk, a wardrobe, a safety box, air-conditioning, a fridge, coffee/tea facilities and a large en-suite bathroom, Complementary small water bottle were provided daily. There was no TV, radio or other entertainment. The room was decorated in traditional Thai style. The only thing we would have liked was more comfortable third bed.
There was a small electric water heater in the bathroom. All bath essentials were provided.
Outdoor Facilities
One of the highlights of this idyllic setting is the infinity swimming pool by the sea. The pool floor is made of natural stone, giving an elegant finish. The swimming pool is a great place to relax especially during low tide when the sea bed is almost dry. There are comfortable sunbeds around swimming pool. The whole area is a playground for families with children.
Activities
This magical spot in the Andaman Sea is a heaven for snorkeling and kayaking. There is a coral reef just metres from the beach.
A walk through the jungle is highly recommended. The path through the rainforest will take you to some beautiful beaches on the west coast.
The other popular activity is bird-watching. Its was a place where we spotted hornbills and other exotic birds which we did not recognize by name.
There is no night life on the island.
Finally, a few words about the staff who were welcoming and friendly The reception was open from 08.00 to 20:00. There was a small food store with the same working time. A 1.5- litre bottle of water was 40 Baht, the same was the price of the ice cream.
We may not ever come back to Thanya Beach Resort or Koh Ngai but both the hotel and the island will remain memories we can share for years.
