We stayed at Stamos Hotel, Afitos in April 2017 for 5 days. We chose this small lovely lodging because of the affordable price and nice-looking photos of the pool area.
We do not regret our choice because Stamos hotel is a good place to explore the beaches of Kassandra, Halkidiki.
It looks like the hotel is being slowly refurbished. Starting from the garden and the pool area you can notice at least four different styles of the outdoor furniture. The same trend is noticeable in the rooms.
Location
Stamos hotel is in the heart of Afitos, just a few meters away from the restaurants and bars. Stamos hotel is easy to find since it is close to the main road leading to the rest of Kassandra, Halkidiki.
The property is located on the hillside part of the town and it is far from the beach – at 15-20 minute walk. The Afitos beach is downhill and the best way to get there is by car.
In fact, Afitos or Athitos is the only place worth visiting on Kassandra, Halkidiki. The town is built on a hillside with a view of Toroneos gulf and the Peninsula of Sithonia. Most houses are built of natural stone or decorated with a stone shields. Afitos has thousands of years long history but most houses look new. A few buildings have kept their authentic facade. Anyway we loved the atmosphere of the cobbled streets and natural landscape.
Rooms
We booked a triple room. What a surprise was when we got at the hotel! They offered us a 2 room apartement at the same price! Both rooms had balconies.
Our rooms were renovated and clean. The best thing was the beautiful view towards the garden and pool area. Linen and towels were changed every day. Yet, we met other guests who told us that some rooms had not been upgraded.
The pool bar was great for either snacks or drinks.
Where To Eat in Afitos?
There are 27 restaurants in Afitos/Athitos. In spring, a few are open but in summer, when the resort is “flooded” by thousands of tourists, it is difficult to find a table without a reservation.
Afitos’s restaurants offered unforgettable moments during our stay. The week before Easter they served mostly seafood and vegetable meals. We tried local specialties typical for this area. Food was even more diverse and tasty than in Sithonia!
We would highly suggest La Gallera fish restaurant which is perched on a hill overlooking the sea. There are three owners of this place. Two of them prepare the food and the third manages the place. At the end of the dinner, they offer a free dessert, which is something typical for Halkidiki – lokumades and pastry.
When we were on the beach we usually ate at Ta Glarakia fish restaurant.
Afitos Beach
One third of the beach of Afitos, at the northernmost end, is sandy. The shore is beautiful and sea gradually becomes deep. Other parts of the beach feature concrete blocks to stop the sand erosion.
Getting Around Afitos
The town is 3 km away from Kallithea In a short distance are located the beaches of Kriopigi and Hatioti. Probably the most beautiful beach on Kassandra – Pefkohori is 25km from Afitos.
