The exclusive Playacar complex, next to Playa del Carmen resort features a dozen of luxury all-inclusive hotels. Sandos Playacar Beach Resort is by far the best of them in terms of overall experience. The sophisticated housing complex is the closest to the wild part of the Playa del Carmen beach. The breathtaking natural setting reveals views of the Caribbean Sea, Cozumel Island, white sandy beaches and tropical jungles.
Hotel’s grounds feature lush natural vegetation with twisting paths through tropical jungle areas. Local animals wander freely through the paths, so on a walk around the Sandos Playacar hotel guests are likely to see agoutis, iguanas, parrots, coatis, and even monkeys.
Sandos Playacar Beach Resort is the right place for adventure-loving holidaymakers. This 5-star all-inclusive hotel in Playa del Carmen offers lots of activities and all-around fun. The entertainment staff works hard to put on a special show every day.
Throughout the day there is a live music performance on the beach. Animation team organises dances under the Caribbean skies as well as funny competitions. There are entertaining activities for every age. Moreover, everywhere you look there are food, snacks and drinks available.
We personally didn’t stay at this hotel but we used to pass it every day close to its gorgeous grounds. Next time we would definitely choose it for our vacation in Playa del Carmen.
Being a guest of Viva Windham Maya allows you to enjoy the facilities of Viva Windham Azteca and vice versa. The Azteca hotel is smaller than Viva Windham Maya. The resort’s grounds are well maintained. It is close to Playa del Carmen’s downtown, to a Mayan ruin site and to the aviary Xaman Ha.
Compared to Viva Windham Maya, the Azteca features a more calm pool bar area – with less entertainment opportunities and a poorer selection of food on the snack bar. There are two a La carte restaurants offering Asian and Mayan food. Tourists staying at Viva Windham Azteca, claim that bartenders work very hard. Cleaning staff is also great. We did experience ourselves that the internet service was not satisfactory and there was no point in paying for internet access in the room. Yet, the service was free in the reception area.
Riu Playacar is next to Viva Windham Maya. In January 2016 the hotel looked like still under construction. There was not enough natural vegetation. Palm trees on the beach and in front of the reception were almost dead. Since we have been to RIU Tequila a few years ago we liked it best because of the perfectly maintained tropical gardens and more human-friendly architecture. As an opposite, Riu Playacar’s buildings looked more like they were part of a shopping mall.
Even around the pool area a work in progress could be noticed. We did visit other RIU hotels in the Dominican Republic and Mexico and were disappointed of the design of RIU Playacar hotel.
The better option to stay in is the larger family resort – Iberostar Tucan and Iberostar Quetzal. The twin hotels are sharing the same facilities. Tucan features Maya themed decoration while, Quetzal is styled in a colonial manner.
The all-inclusive complex is located in a jungle setting. Guests are able to enjoy wide range of tropical birds and animals roaming free, white sandy beach and great entertainment.
Iberostar Tucan and Iberostar Quetzal are beachfront hotels located on a beautiful stretch of a powdery sand beach. The accommodation is a perfect getaway for a Caribbean vacation.
