On August 2016, we spent eight beautiful days at Hotel Archontiko on the Greek island of Ammouliani. We choose it by accident. Judging by the pictures on their website, there was no indication that we would feel as if at home. Moreover, we felt as a part of the owners’ family!
The accommodation is run by two charming women – Christina and her mum. They make guests feel the comfort of a home and the service of a hotel.
Hotel Archontiko: Location
As soon as we landed after the short ferryboat trip we found ourselves at the village’s port. As we travelled by car, we followed the street to the village and in two minutes we saw the Prodos market on our left side. We turned left and in 50 metres we saw the Hotel Archontiko.
The accommodation boasts great location. It is near everything important – 5 minutes to the restaurants, cafes and shops. The hotel is close to the port where daily cruises around the island are offered. In front of the hotel there is a parking area.
The Alykes beach is at 5-7 minutes by car. The Megali Amos beach is at a 10 minute drive. The Karagatsi beach is less than 4 kilometres from the hotel. In a close vicinity, there are three supermarkets and a playground for kids. The main square is just in few metres from the hotel. Being located in a quiet street makes the hotel Archontico a perfect place to have a rest.
Rooms and Amenities
The name Archontico stands for an old palace in Greek. The hotel is furnished in a romantic, vintage style with an extensive use of round arches, wood, iron elements, draped curtains and terracotta tiles. At night, elegant outdoor lighting highlights the building. Everything looks like newly refurbished.
There is a small but charming garden area where guests can have a drink. Fortunately, people are not forced to order drinks from the hotel’s bar. In the common spaces they can also consume their own beverages.
Coffee and beverages at the bar are twice as cheaper than the drinks in other hotels like Agionissi Ammouliani.
As you enter the building you face a welcoming reception with a few tables and a bar where breakfast is served. Wi Fi is free. In the first day of our vacation the connection was perfect. Then we had problems to browse the Internet from the room. Soon, the owners fixed the problem and provided us with two passwords – one for the Wi-Fi on the first floor and another for the room upstairs.
We stayed in a double room with an extra bed for our daughter. The room featured a spacious balcony with a street/garden view. In the room there were a mini fridge, a king-sized bed, an A/C and a single bed. Bathroom featured a shower.
Wooden shutters ensured that we could sleep late in the morning. There was also an anti mosquito net as well as an electronic repellent.
On the balcony there were a stylish table with two chairs and a clothesline.
What made the Hotel Archontiko a great place to stay was the delicious breakfast prepared by the lady owner. We were amazed by the variety of foods. Each morning the menu included different type of omelette, crumbled eggs, boiled eggs, pastry, ham, cheese, olive oils, tomatoes, fruits, honey, yoghurt and many more.
We also enjoyed the constant attention by the owners. They were very attentive, with a smile always on their faces.
Hristina and her mum recommended us interesting places to eat and to explore. We were curious where to get extra virgin olive oil. Since the freshly extracted olive oil is available in October-November, Hristina and her mum gave us for free one of their bottles with local oil. What a great surprise to find a bottle of tasty olive oil in our room! We were impressed!
Hotel Archontico Prices
Room rates in high season are similar to other hotels in Ammouliani. In late August they charged us 85 euros per night with breakfast included. Booking two double rooms at a time could save us 10 euros per night since the rate would be 75 euros.
In the low season, for example in September, a double room cost 50 euros.
